By next Thursday, have both your "Candy" and "Objects of the Same Color" projects completed.
You have a bit of time to finish your "Candy" pieces. The ideas mentioned during our meeting were pretty clever and interesting. Give yourself enough time to complete these pieces and get to work on the next phase.
The "Objects..." project has shifted slightly; everybody is now responsible for their own color and there is a list of items to collect. Like a scavenger hunt, but with more creativity.
Here are the categories:
- Square
- Round
- Fruit
- Paper
- Plant
- Jewelry
- Soft
- Hard
Here are the colors for each person:
- Carlos:White
- Kacey:Red
- Josie:Green
- Christine:Orange
- Max:Yellow
- Kevin:Black
- Isabel:Blue
- Shruti:Purple
Remember that modification and alteration of the objects is encouraged. Paint a green piece of wood blue. Cut a round disk to make a square. Make your own jewelry using some junk found around the house.
It'll be easy to find the stuff on the list in the color you need, but the point is to be artistic in your approach.
If you finish something and would like to store it at school ahead of time, Mr. Malley and Mrs. Caston have space available in the classrooms for you to do so. The red cabinet to the right of the sink in Mr. Malley's class is open as are the large cabinets (period 4/5?) in Mrs. Caston's class.

Art, for example #3

Yes, it's another comparison!
This time: style and content.
Take a look at the work of Alphonse Mucha and Flavio Costanini. What are some of the obvious visual similarities and differences? What is each, depicting, describing, promoting, or advertising? Which is more appealing to you and why?

Art, for example #2

Alright. This time rather than simply putting up some pictures and little blurb about an artist, let's discuss some topics we might deal with.
The idea of scale was something that came up on Wednesday. A few people mentioned they'd like to work "big" or have it be "memorable". I'm wondering if the group feels larger artworks create a stronger impact of their audience. Is there a connection between the size of art and how long you remember it?
Christo and Jean-Claude are best known for using material to wrap massive buildings, stretch immense distances, and surround islands. Some of their projects have taken decades and the assistance of hundreds of volunteers to complete.
Conversely, Lee Walton has done projects involving people performing everyday activities. If you walked by and weren't aware that they were hired actors, you'd mistake them for normal people doing normal things.
What are some of the pieces you've seen or read about that are most vivid in your memory? Were they awe-inspiringly huge, or nearly invisible?
